Common buckthorn re-sprouts from cut stumps and holds a seed bank in the soil for years. A single clearing looks like a win in October and is a thicket again by the next August. We plan for that from the start.

Cut & stump treatmentCutting alone guarantees regrowth. Stumps get treated at the cut so the root system doesn't simply push a dozen new stems.

Follow-up seasonsThe seed bank keeps germinating after the canopy opens. Return visits catch the second and third flush while seedlings are still pullable.

Replanting the gapCleared ground doesn't stay empty. Native shrubs and groundcover get the space before the next invasive claims it.
